Happy Saint Patrick's Day!

We have gotten a little Irish spirit in us this St. Patrick's Day. We just began studying Europe with Galloping the Globe and added Ireland to our travels this week. Here's some of what Madison has read:

• The Life of Saint Patrick by Quentin Reynolds. She said it was exciting. Must be. It is one hundred seventy seven pages and she read in a day!
  
• The Man Who Loved Books by Jean Fritz. Part legend and part truth, Columba was an Irishman born in the 500's. He loved books and became a missionary in Scotland.
• The Magic Summer by Noel Streatfeild. Four English children spend the summer in Ireland with their great-aunt whom they have never met. The story becomes a mystery and adventure. Madison wants you to know the aunt thinks seagulls tell the future, which we know is not true.
• What We Know About the Celts by Hazel Mary Martell. Detailed illustrations and photographs are used to look at the religion, history and culture through the everyday lives of these people.

I have an affinity for bag pipes and found this 3-CD set Song of the Piper 36 Hymns and Traditional Tunes from the Scottish Highlands and the Shores of Ireland. Chas and Madison will turn it on and dance around the room together. (It is so cute!)

And finally, to be green inside and out, we had green oatmeal for breakfast. And no, the children did not eat it.
