December Highlights
We have been busy enjoying the moments....
Hanukkah
While studying Israel, we also studied Jews and Jewish holidays. After doing some research our family decided to observe Hanukkah. A couple of hundred years before the birth of Christ, Rome required everyone to worship the emperor as god. The Jewish people refused and were persecuted and driven out of Jerusalem by the Syrians. Eventually the Jews were able to return to find their temple had been desecrated. All the vials of oil had been crushed, but one was found. A vial of oil would provide light for one day, but miraculously this one lasted for eight. During that time, the Jews were able to clean and rededicate their temple.
The dreidels Madison and I made with our menorah.
Special Decorations
A few items in our home are near and dear....
Is there a unique decoration you enjoyed from your childhood? For me it was a chiming angel carousel. It was lost in one of our moves when I was growing up. I have looked for another one for over 10 years now. Finally, I found it!
Angel Chime
Last year, our angel tree family gave us a decoration to enjoy and remember them by. Also a reminder to pray for them. "How sweet!" was Chas' comment.
Santa and his friends are sneaking into the children's bedrooms.
One of our family traditions is to spend an evening shopping, eating out, and picking out a new Byers Caroler to add to our collection. It is one of Madison's favorite traditions.
Carolers
Baking
The children were including in the holiday baking this year...a little more messy, but a lot more fun!
Our first gingerbread house from a kit.
The children icing our traditional press cookies.
A new treat...snowman mints
Other noteworthy happenings
Madison's first public violin performance at a local nursing home.
Chas has taken Playmobile Baby Jesus on many adventures from driving a race car on the Christmas tree to riding 4 wheelers.
Another year closer to 40 but still feel like I am twenty something!
