Rubbing Elbows
The place is packed. Chas sits on the edge of his seat and fidgets with excitement. He cranes his neck looking around, wanting to get the first glimpse. His jaw drops and eyes widen as the doors open and the procession of people begins. As the individuals walk toward the front, a smile spreads across his face as he begins to recognize faces. He points out the ones he has met and reminds me of what he knows about them.
From Chas' and many of the other children's reaction you might be thinking it was a procession of famous athletes, movie or TV personalities, or maybe even children characters. But they aren't. They are people just like you and me who are taking the message of Jesus to various corners of the Earth.
It's the Annual Global Missions Week where about thirty missionaries from around the world come to our church to present what the Lord is doing and how He is using them.
On the first day, the children rotate from room to room to meet and learn from the missionaries in a small group setting. As each presentation draws to a close, the missionaries share their prayer requests and the children so sweetly pray. This interaction touches the children's hearts and they form a genuine interest which draws them into the rest of the week.
I am so grateful the Lord allows us the opportunity to regularly rub elbows with the famous of His kingdom, especially for the children. It continually blesses, convicts and enriches our lives and our relationship with Him.
"But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first." Matthew 19:30
